SUMMIT MEDICAL CENTER OFFERS EPILEPTICS A SOLUTION
December 31, 2009 Summit Medical Center is proud to provide the closest and most convenient Epilepsy Monitoring Unit to Wilson County residents. The Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) at Summit Medical Center is a specialized inpatient unit that is dedicated to investigating an individuals seizures and customizing a treatment plan.
The Epilepsy Monitoring Unit is an inpatient long-term video electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring. Such extensive monitoring helps the physicians distinguish the seizure type, locate the area where the seizure begins and exclude non-epileptic seizures from the diagnosis. All of this information helps the epilepsy team develop customized treatment plans for each patient. The EMU has the capability of revealing a diagnosis for patients with possible seizures to further classify the seizure type for patients who were already diagnosed with epilepsy. Two of Summit Medical Centers board certified neurologists, Dr. Christine Dong and Dr. Noel Lim, specialize in epilepsy and operate the unit.
Outside of one downtown medical facility, Summit Medical Center has the only other Epilepsy Monitoring Unit in the area. This monitoring unit is an excellent device to diagnose and manage a patients seizures, says Dr. Dong. Not only does this unit help us localize the seizure and characterize it, but more importantly, it helps improve the patients condition and quality of life.
Both Dr. Dong and Dr. Lim are practicing physicians with Mid Tennessee Neurology Associates. This practice has two convenient locations in Hermitage and Lebanon. To learn more about the EMU or to make an appointment with one of these neurologists, please call their office at 615-391-8160.
